Omdat het boek in principe voor mijn dochter bedoeld was, besloot ik zelf de illustraties te maken. Geïnspireerd door haar dagelijkse “cut and glue” praktijken, begon ik met de collagemethode te werken. Maar ook omdat ik zelf niet thuis ben in de digitale programma’s voor illustraties. Daarom dacht ik ‘roeien met de riemen die je hebt’. En ik hoop dat dit andere mensen met ideeën zal inspireren om voor hun dromen te gaan en gewoon de middelen te gebruiken die ze hebben om de mensen te kunnen bereiken met hun gedachten. Ik heb enorm genoten van het werken met mijn handen en nu weet ik dat dit niet de laatste keer zal zijn dat ik met beelden werk! Mijn dochter gaf me steeds waardevolle feedback over de illustraties. ‘Mama, ik denk dat de personages een sjaal zouden moeten dragen.’ Dus ik gaf ze een sjaal. Since the book was going to be for my daughter, I decided to do the illustrations myself. Inspired by her daily “cut and glue” practices, I decided to work with the collage method, also because at this point in time I have no experience with any digital illustration programmes. So, I thought “rowing with the oars you have got = making do with the means available to you” And I hope this will inspire other people with ideas to just go for it and simply use the tools they have to convey their message. I really enjoyed working with my hands again and I know now for sure that this won’t be the last time I work with images!!! My daughter gave me great feedback on the illustrations. “Mum, I think they should wear a scarf.” So, I gave the characters their scarf.
